How Often Should You Get a Tarot Reading?

Author: Boris Stromov

My recommendation: do not make tarot your daily decision-maker

As a general rule for everyday life, I do not recommend major readings more often than roughly once every six months. That is not a universal mystical prohibition, and it is not a precise rule for every situation. My reasoning is straightforward: I do not want anyone to develop a habit of delegating every personal decision to the cards.

If you need a reading before choosing dinner, responding to each message, or making any small everyday choice, you can gradually lose confidence in your own judgement. At that point tarot is no longer helping you think; it becomes a compulsory source of permission.

Do not repeat a question just because the answer was unwelcome

When you dislike a reading, you may want to ask again immediately. But often the motivation is not to learn something new; it is to find a different answer. If the circumstances have not changed, it may be better to pause, reflect and observe what is happening in real life.

It is different when something genuinely new occurs: an important conversation, a move, a new phase in a relationship, or a decision made by those involved. That can create a new question rather than another repetition of an old one.

Why ongoing work can involve more frequent readings

When accompanying a client through an ongoing situation, or in some ritual practices, the frequency may differ: sometimes every week or two, according to developments. The aim is to examine a specific process, not to replace all independent thought with divination.

Even then, boundaries matter. A person should remain an active participant in their life, not a passive spectator of predictions.
