How to Ask Tarot Questions About Relationships

Author: Boris Stromov

Start by explaining what is going on between you

When reading about a relationship, I first want to understand its dynamics. How long have you known one another? Have you been together? What has changed? Are you currently in contact? What does the person requesting the reading hope to achieve? The same basic list of questions reads very differently for spouses who have been married for a decade and two people who briefly crossed paths at a party.

Templates are useful, but they cannot replace a backstory. You can start with my relationship question templates from the consultation section, cross out what does not apply, and add a few sentences about your own history. Clarity matters more than the number of questions.

If you are not in a relationship yet, do not start with deep love

Imagine that you have merely noticed someone, or exchanged a handful of messages. Asking “How deeply does he love me?” may presuppose feelings the other person has not even had a chance to develop. It makes more sense to explore the potential for getting acquainted, further contact, mutual interest, and possible obstacles.

If you are already together, questions about feelings, dynamics, and the future are more appropriate. Even then, the actual events matter: arguments, periods of silence, life changes, and shared plans.

Do not confuse your anxiety with your partner's anxiety

Be particularly careful with questions such as “What is he most afraid of in our relationship?” Sometimes a partner is not especially afraid of anything, while the person asking is overwhelmed with anxiety. Their expectations end up shaping the question more than the facts about the other person do.

I return to a simple idea: not everything you think you see in someone is really there. Sometimes you are looking at a reflection of your own fears and wishes. It helps to distinguish “what I suspect” from “what I actually know.”

An example set of questions

“How does he feel about our communication right now?”, “What is helping or preventing us from growing closer?”, “What are the prospects if our current dynamic continues?”, and “What should I bear in mind if I want to preserve the relationship?” Even these questions should be adapted to the specific story.
