Start with the topic, not the cards
A tarot spread catalog may include relationships, work, decisions, money, and the future. It can seem as though you must discover the one perfect layout. The practical answer is simpler: choose a template closest to the question you want to explore.
For a relationship, begin with the relationship category. If you are comparing options, choose a decision spread. For coming developments, a future-oriented spread can be useful. If you have one clear, short question, you may not need an elaborate layout at all.
You can shorten or extend a template
I recommend taking a prepared list of questions and crossing out anything that does not fit. There is no reason to ask about an ex-partner if you have never separated, or about marriage prospects if your actual concern is ending contact.
Once you remove the irrelevant parts, add what matters in your own situation. A brief account of the history, present circumstances and desired outcome is especially valuable. No template replaces context.
One spread does not need to cover everything
If your question list jumps between love, inheritance, home renovations, and a new job, consider separating those subjects. Large readings are not forbidden; the purpose is to keep your thinking clear. Different topics involve different goals, people, and time frames.
Feel free to adapt a suggested layout. To me, a consistent method and a meaningful question matter more than perfect obedience to someone else's template.
